At 59 years old, Dave Morrocco is doing something that challenges the conventional narrative around aging and longevity: he’s getting stronger, pushing harder and competing at a level that would make athletes half his age think twice.
A fitness enthusiast and dedicated HYROX athlete, Dave recently proved what’s possible when he finished third at HYROX Las Vegas in the Doubles 50–54 age group. His secret isn’t a shortcut or a magic formula. It’s consistent training with wearable resistance and a willingness to challenge himself.
For Dave, the OMORPHO G‑Vest has become an essential part of that equation. He regularly trains in the weighted vest, incorporating added resistance into his running, strength workouts and HYROX-specific movements. The goal is simple: make his body work harder during training so that when race day arrives, he’s ready for whatever the course throws at him.
And at 59, Dave says he has never felt stronger.
Train Harder Without Changing How You Move
HYROX is uniquely demanding because it requires both strength and endurance. Athletes run, push, pull, carry, lunge and perform functional movements repeatedly, with running making up roughly 60% of the race.
That makes running fitness critical and it’s one area where Dave believes training with a weighted vest has made a noticeable difference.
“The G‑Vest helped increase my muscular endurance across every HYROX station and especially helped with my running.”
Adding resistance to a run forces the body to work harder and builds aerobic endurance more quickly than it would without the additional load.
For Dave, the benefit goes beyond simply running with extra weight. Because the G‑Vest can be incorporated into so many different movements, he can use wearable resistance throughout his training rather than reserving it for one specific exercise.
A run becomes more challenging. Bodyweight movements become more demanding. Strength exercises require more effort.
Every movement has a little more effect.
When the Weight Almost Disappears
Not all weighted vests are created equal.
For Dave, one of the biggest advantages of the G‑Vest is how naturally it moves with his body. OMORPHO’s MicroLoad™ design evenly distributes small weights across the torso rather than concentrating the load in one area. The result is a weighted vest that sits flat against the body and stays in place while you move. There’s no constant shifting or bouncing to think about. It doesn’t get in the way of running or functional movements, and Dave says the G‑Vest is incredibly comfortable to wear without the chafing that can come with other forms of added resistance.
In fact, the even distribution makes the weight almost disappear.
That matters when you’re training for something as demanding as HYROX. The objective isn’t simply to carry more weight. It’s to add resistance while allowing you to maintain natural movement and focus on the work.
For Dave, that means he can put on his G‑Vest and simply get after it.

Getting Stronger at 59
There are expectations that come with getting older. There’s an assumption that as you approach 60, slowing down is inevitable. That strength begins to decline. That performance becomes about maintaining what you have rather than seeing what else you can accomplish.
Dave isn’t buying it. Finishing third at HYROX Las Vegas in the Doubles 50–54 division wasn’t an accident. HYROX rewards athletes who can maintain their strength and speed when fatigue sets in, and Dave believes his training approach has helped him do exactly that.
He says he has “never felt stronger,” and his training with the G‑Vest has played a major role in that mindset and transformation.
“For those like me that are short on time but want to be competitive, the G‑Vest delivers the effectiveness of a 2-hour workout in half the time.”
The results aren’t only visible on the HYROX course. Dave has also lost 15 pounds while training with the G‑Vest, adding another dimension to the impact of making wearable resistance a consistent part of his fitness routine.
But perhaps the biggest change is confidence. There’s a psychological benefit that comes from completing a workout or HYROX sim with added load. When Dave trains in his G‑Vest, he knows he is creating an additional challenge so when race day comes, he takes the vest off and gets to work.
Superman’s Cape
Dave’s story is ultimately bigger than a weighted vest or a HYROX podium finish. It’s about rejecting the idea that getting older means settling for less.
At 59, Dave is still setting goals, pushing his limits and finding new ways to challenge himself. He’s using wearable resistance to make his workouts more effective, building strength and endurance while continuing to pursue performance.
When asked whether training in the G‑Vest helps with motivation, Dave doesn’t hesitate.
“It feels like I’m putting a Superman cape on and feel like a complete badass.”
That mindset may be the most important part of Dave’s training.
For Dave, the G‑Vest is a reminder to keep pushing, to keep getting stronger and to keep finding out what he’s capable of.
At 59, he’s not slowing down. He’s just getting started.
